Portage Branch - PRR Old Main Line

The old PRR main line was located in Sonman, Pennsylvania. After the PRR was finished with the realignment the old main line became a branch line where a coal cleaning plant was opened years later by Cooney Bros. Coal Company. This branch survived through the PRR, P,& CR era's. Norfolk Southern now owns the entire main line of the old PRR. The coal cleaning plany was sold to AMFIRE which now operates is running at fully capacity. Three to Four train loads of coal comes out weekly from this plant. The branch line connects with the main line at Jimtown, Pa on the east end and on the west end connects at Mile Post Detector 258.9
